Project Guidelines
Create a cardboard model of anything we had on our person at the time of assignment, which for me was my water bottle.
Project Outcomes
To be able to sketch out and model with cardboard, manipulating the medium in creative ways to develop a redesigned version of an everyday object and understand ways of modeling an idea, taking it from sketch to finished product.
I decided to take the project a step further, making all of the mechanisms of the water bottle function, with two working caps and a hinge for the handle. By slicing slits in to the medium of the cardboard, allowing it to curve, and treating it like a fabric and cutting darts into the top which I glued together to make it bend in, I was able to get an accurate shape of the bottle. In the end, I ended up with a fully functioning water bottle, aside from the fact that it of course would be destroyed if you poured water in it as it’s made out of paper. A funny irony I think.
